Welcome! I recently graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo with a degree in journalism.
To me, writing is not work. It’s a form of expression, a way to spread knowledge, and an excuse to talk about the things I love while I can’t physically be doing them.
The wonderful thing about being involved in Cal Poly’s journalism program is the hands-on experience that student’s receive from their courses. For the past quarters, I’ve been writing as a reporter for the student-run newspaper, The Mustang Daily. I’ve written about forty articles so far and each article requires research, interviewing, writing, drafting, taking pictures, and editing.
I began my journalism experience my senior year in high school when I interned for an environmental newspaper based in San Rafael, California. Thankfully, this internship was very hands-on as well, as I acted as a reporter for the paper. When one of the articles I wrote was published, I knew then and there that being a journalist was in the cards for me.
Major courses of study included: Writing for the Media, Mass Media in a Multi-Cultural Society, Mass Media Law, Contemporary Advertising, Copy Editing, Journalism Ethics, Journalism History, Global Communication, Visual Communications, Public Affairs Reporting, Feature Writing, Intro to Linguistics
My personal interests include: Travel, snowboarding, wakeboarding, hiking, backpacking, the beach, spending time with friends and family, working out, finding new, healthy recipes to whip up, reading and writing.
